Dinner and Plastic

Tonight was our dinner at Centex's Raleigh headquarters. It was for any person building a Centex home in the Triangle, so there were a lot of people there. Our sales representative Stephanie was there at the beginning and she introduced us to two couples who are also building at the same time we are and on our street. They were both super, unreal nice, which is exciting! Each couple is about about 3-5 years older than Brian and me and they seem pretty social, but not, like, weird, which is also exciting. (We want neighbors who are friendly who we can borrow some flour from when needed, but not the kind that are going to invite us over every Friday night.) Anyway, the dinner from Amedeo's North was phenomenal. A few different yummy pasta dishes and some pizza, as well as salad, an appetizer, and chocolate chip cookies!

Centex's presentation was short and sweet--they went over the construction process and the different meetings that we would have as well as our home warranties. We have a two-year Fit and Finish (TM) warranty, a six-year plumbing warranty, and a ten-year structural warranty, all of which are transferable if we sell while the warranty is still in effect. The warranty lady went over the work-order process and gave some handy dandy tips to maximize warranty stuff and how to not invalidate warranty stuff by being idiots. Overall it was really helpful. She also explained that garbage disposals will not be installed for any home that obtains a building permit after March 17. Since our permit is from February, we will be A-OK!

They also answered questions, some of which were good questions and others that were not. I don't know why, but there's always a difficult question asker (AKA "that guy/girl") in every group. Clearly, some people don't understand the second part of homeOWNER, since some of the questions were ridiculous. One lady seriously asked if she was going to be fined by the HOA for not watering her grass, since the City of Raleigh was under Stage 2 restrictions and another genius asked if Centex was going to RE-INSTALL all of her water-dispensing devices to make them low flow, since the city recommended it (mind you--she had already MOVED IN to her house [I guess she missed the meeting before she closed.]) Brian and I were trying really hard not to laugh. I really wanted to turn around and tell the problem people that they should just stop building their houses right now and forfeit the deposit, since I could guarantee them that they're going to have a bajillion more problems with the process. Problem people always do.

Afterward, we drove through our neighborhood (surprise!) and a worker was still out there (at 8 PM!). They've finished putting down all the gravel, covered it all with plastic, and the inspector has signed off for them to pour the concrete, so Brian and I are expecting for it to be poured tomorrow!!!! We don't know how long it will take for it to set, but since they are calling for beautiful weather, they will probably start framing on Monday, unless it's just super quick dry or something. It was too dark tonight to take any pictures, but we're going to go back out tomorrow and snap a few. I totally wish I could watch them pour the concrete; I think that would be so neat to watch!!

Oh, another exciting the more you know kinda thing: CENTEX stands for Central Texas, since that's the headquarters. I knew y'all would be fascinated!
